Lee Griffin's Statement

KICKAPOO AREA SCHOOLS – SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF!

Lee H. Griffin said it best:  Kickapoo School’s mission is to help develop healthy minds and healthy bodies.

Referendum Information

Kickapoo School District is facing some tough challenges ahead. With rising costs to run our school and transportation department, lack of state funding, and increasing needs for our students, we are asking our community to approve a $1,600,000 recurring operational referendum phased in over 4 years ($400,000/year for 4 years) at the Spring election.  This is just a ceiling number.  Kickapoo Schools has always been fiscally responsible and will continue to do so.  There have been a number of projects completed to improve our school without relying on a referendum – replaced 2 of the 3 sections of the roof, remodeled the track, replaced the high school gym floor and added an addition and new equipment to our technical education department to mention a few.

We are not alone!  Most surrounding schools have had to ask their community for support through a referendum.  Here are just a few that have passed:

·         Boscobel (passed in 2023):  $21,500,000 for capital improvements

·         LaFarge (2020): $5,500,000 for capital improvements

·         North Crawford (2022):  $$4,500,000 for capital improvements and a recurring operational referendum for a total of $900,000

·         Riverdale (2021):  a nonrecurring operational referendum for a total of $7,910,000

·         Richland (2020):  a recurring operational referendum for a total of $1,250,000

·         Viroqua:  a nonrecurring operational referendum for $2,750,000 in 2020, a capital improvement referendum for $3,500,000 in 2022 and a capital referendum for $17,000,000 in 2022

·         Wauzeka-Steuben:  a nonrecurring for $954,000 in 2020 and a nonrecurring in 2022 for $3,352,000
